The meeting was held on 15th July 2009 and covered a wide range of issues . The workshops were very forthright and
productive with useful input from a wide spectrum of delegates. There was an update on current legislation and future amendments from a number of representatives from various interested parties as well as the Scottish Government. See related links page for website
Text Box: Strathclyde Police
Further to a meeting with the Diversity Officer we have established a line of contact which will give Crosslynx
access to help and assistance with regard to a number of issues which may arise in our day to day lives. Strathclyde Police are striving to help our community to be safe and handle any situations with tact and respect, whilst maintaining discretion at each stage. We have been offered the participation of the Diversity officer to come to our meetings and discuss any issues or subject which have an impact or possible impact on how we conduct ourselves. At present, being safe in public, transphobic crimes, reporting of crimes and your rights in law, are priority items and the format and presentation is to be discussed and notified to the members. If you require any other subject or item to be included, please contact me.

Police  Online reporting of Hate Crime

Should  you be subjected to any kind of hate crime and don’t feel that you can  make an actual report to the police, the following link allows you to make out a report without divulging any personal information. I would urge anyone experiencing this type of crime, and IT IS A CRIME, to complete the report which will allow the police to gauge the extent of the problem and allocate the appropriate resources. I have been assured that each report is treated with respect and where possible, fully investigated.

Glasgow City Council  - LGBT Community Safety Forum

At a recent launch of a “Safety in Numbers Training Pack”  the event

attracted a reasonable number of delegates from various organisations.

To accompany the launch and the dissemination of the information,  3 x 1 day training courses on the use of the packs will be available at a  later date, at which time the full information pack with the accompanying video will be issued. Having seen the video, I believe this may be a worthwhile event for one of the meetings when, hopefully a large turnout will be available to view the information and message.

Northern Constabulary

A conference was held on Sept 8th & 9th 2009 near Aviemore to discuss the impact and implementation of the current

laws as they relate to the transgendered community within  the Northern Constabulary Area. The conference was well attended by a number of groups who operate within the geographical area as well as from outside the area, including The Scottish Transgender Alliance and the National Trans Police Association.

Community Planning Partnerships

Currently the local authorities have to consult with various groups and

organisations about how they should be providing services to their users. The LGBT is now becoming involved in these processes, and if any member feels a need or desire to help determine any services, or be part of the process, please contact  the LGBT / Equalities Network for information

Supporting the Transgender Community in Glasgow and the West of Scotland

Crosslynx Transgender Group are now being widely recognised  by a number of service providers as their  source of information on the Transgender Community, not only within the Glasgow and West of Scotland area, but also , due to contact with other groups within Scotland, as a valuable resource. We have recently been involved with West Dunbartonshire LGBT Networks, and will have a presence on their committee for the near future. We have also become more involved with the West of Scotland LGBT Safety Forum, and are becoming involved in the newly re-formed Glasgow LGBT Safety Forum.

As there is such a need for transgender people to  become involved in these groups, and if safety is an issue you like to become involved with, please contact us and  offer your input or assistance.

Crosslynx. Transgender Group

May/June/July 2010   Crosslynx attended the West Dunbartonshire LGBT Networks and  Glasgow LGBT Safety Forum, both of which were reasonably well attended. Our continuing presence in these groups is desired and  the input on behalf of the TG community is appreciated.

July 2010. Further contact was made with ACPOS LGBT forum regarding the  2010 National Transgender Awareness Campaign , and was generally well received. The final details and layouts of the campaign are still to be completed, but indications are that this will proceed as it is a much needed project.
